What this topic teaches
Los adverbios del HSK 4 cumplen cinco funciones: medir (about the same差不多, almost差点, just now刚, enough (sufficient)够), juzgar y percibir (apparently看来,
original原来, original本来, outcome结果, fear恐怕, unexpectedly竟然), intensificar (used in 可汗可…(completed / change)了, even甚至, again又 + not不/not / haven't没, ten million千万, then / just就 + sujeto),
insistir en una pregunta (finally到底, to go to the bottom of a…究竟, don't tell me ...难道), y aconsejar u obligar (to have no other option but…只好, have no choice or option…不得不, best最好, or / still还是…(suggestion)吧).
always从来all / both都, also也all / both都 y just (in time)正好.
El examen evalúa la posición y la combinación, no el vocabulario: si all / both都 aparece, dónde va not不,
qué adverbio corresponde a qué sentimiento. Repita cada ejemplo en voz alta.
Medición: about the same差不多, almost差点, just now刚, enough (sufficient)够
about the same差不多 se descifra por sí mismo: used in 参差差 (diferencia) + not不 (no) + many多 (mucho) = "casi nada" —
"más o menos lo mismo". Funciona solo como predicado, une dos elementos
(A with / and跟 B about the same差不多), o precede a una cantidad (about the same差不多十点 "alrededor de las diez").
Shanghai municipality…上海and / with和New York纽约about the same差不多。 (Shànghǎi hé Niǔyuē chàbuduō.) — Shanghái y Nueva York son muy
similares.
Para varios elementos, añada all / both都: this这a few几个all / both都about the same差不多 (zhè jǐ ge dōu chàbuduō) — estos todos están
más o menos igual.
almost差点 significa "por poco" — algo casi ocurrió, generalmente algo malo, y no
war chariot (archaic)车almost差点to knock against撞to / arrive到I / me我。
La particularidad famosa: almost差点not / haven't没to fall down摔倒 (chàdiǎn méi shuāidǎo) todavía significa "casi caigo" — el
not / haven't没 adds feeling, not logic.
just now刚 marks an action a short time ago, glued to the verb. With a duration it needs no
"ago" word: he / him他just now刚to come来China中国两个moon月。 (Tā gāng lái Zhōngguó liǎng ge yuè.) — He came to
China just two months ago. Don't confuse it with the noun just now (variant of 刚才)刚才, which marks a point in
the recent past.
enough (sufficient)够 means "enough", and position flips the mood: before a verb or adjective it is
"enough to"; after certain verbs it is "fed up". we / us我们to buy买(modifier / structural particle)的vegetable菜够吃(completed / change)了。 (Wǒmen mǎi de cài
gòu chī le.) — We bought enough food. I / me我受够了! (Wǒ shòugòu le!) — I've had
enough! And 吃够(completed / change)了 means "sick of eating it", not "ate enough".
Try it. You nearly missed the bus this morning but caught it: I / me我today今天almost差点not / haven't没to keep up with赶上public公共steam汽
war chariot (archaic)车。(Wǒ jīntiān chàdiǎn méi gǎnshàng gōnggòngqìchē.) — I only just caught the bus.
Judging and realising: apparently看来, original原来, original本来, outcome结果, fear恐怕, unexpectedly竟然
apparently看来 is your read of a situation — "it seems" — a judgement in your head. In
someone's view: in my opinion在我看来 (zài w kànlái). Do not confuse it with seemingly看起来, which reports
what your eyes see.
apparently看来he / him他not不to come来(completed / change)了。 (Kànlái tā bù lái le.) — It seems he's not coming.
original原来 wears two hats: "original, former" (original原来(modifier / structural particle)的 + noun) and the lightbulb "so it
turns out": original原来you你to be / is是teacher老师(exclamation)啊! (Yuánlái nǐ shì lǎoshī a!) — Oh, so you're a teacher!
original本来 is "originally — but it changed". It sets up a U-turn: I / me我original本来want / will / need要to go去 (modifier / structural particle)的,but可是
— I'd meant to go, but then I
enfermar. Si nada cambió y te refieres a "resulta que", quieres original原来, no original本来. Con
then / just就, original本来then / just就 significa "por supuesto, siempre fue así".
outcome结果 abre la segunda cláusula con un desenlace a menudo indeseado: she / her她to wear穿(degree marker)得too太young少,outcome结果to catch cold感冒
(completed / change)了。
Se sitúa antes del sujeto: fear恐怕tomorrow明天want / will / need要to rain下雨。 (Kǒngpà míngtiān yào xiàyǔ.) — Temo
que va a llover mañana. Para un "probablemente" neutral, usa maybe / possible可能.
unexpectedly竟然 es impactante — "inesperadamente, por algo": so much这么difficult / hard难(modifier / structural particle)的topic题,he / him他unexpectedly竟然to make做to / towards / correct对(completed / change)了。
Requiere sorpresa genuina; ≈ unexpectedly居然 (ligeramente más fuerte), opuesto de really果然.
Presionando e intensificando: used in 可汗可…(completed / change)了, even甚至, again又 + not不/not / haven't没, ten million千万, then / just就 + sujeto
used in 可汗可 + adjetivo + (completed / change)了 envuelve un adjetivo en un "¡vaya, de verdad!": this这only只pup小狗used in 可汗可naughty淘气(completed / change)了!
even甚至 apunta al caso más extremo — "incluso" — a menudo con to link连…all / both都: 他太忙(completed / change)了,what甚
to arrive至variant of 吃吃lunch午饭(modifier / structural particle)的(concept of) time时间all / both都not have / haven't没有。
(no) olvides": ten million千万别忘了band带passport护照。 (Qiānwàn bié wàng le dài hùzhào.) — No importa qué hagas,
no olvides tu pasaporte. Pertenece a ruegos y advertencias, no a enunciados neutrales.
then / just就 + sujeto resalta la escasez — "solo": everyone大家all / both都to finish work下班(completed / change)了,then / just就boss老板still / also还not / haven't没
to walk走。 (Dàjiā dōu xiàbān le, jiù lobǎn hái méi zǒu.) — Todos se han ido; solo el jefe
sigue aquí. Una pequeña cantidad cerca significa "solo"; un tiempo cerca significa el otro then / just就.
ten million千万want / will / need要to be careful小心, fear恐怕can / will会to rain下雨, or / still还是band带(把: marks the object)把damask silk伞(suggestion)吧. Di las tres.
Preguntando con firmeza: finally到底, to go to the bottom of a…究竟, don't tell me ...难道
finally到底 indaga la respuesta real. En una pregunta presiona — "en el mundo": you你finally到底want / think / miss想variant of 说说
what什么? (Nǐ dàodǐ xiǎng shuō shénme?) — ¿Qué demonios intentas decir? En un
enunciado significa "al fin, finalmente": weather天气finally到底warm暖和(completed / change)了。
to go to the bottom of a…
we / us我们to go to the bottom of a…究竟还要to wait for等(of time) how long? (Wǒmen jiūjìng hái yào děng duōjiǔ?) — Exactamente cuánto
tiempo más tenemos que esperar?
don't tell me ...
(yes/no ?)吗: don't tell me ...难道you你really真的to be convinced (that sth…相信he / him他(yes/no ?) (Nándào nǐ zhēn de xiāngxìn tā ma?) — ¿Acaso crees
Necesidad y consejo: to have no other option but…只好, have no choice or option…不得不, best最好, or / still还是…(suggestion)吧
to have no other option but…只好 es la única opción restante, tomada con reticencia: dining hall餐厅all / both都to close a door关门(completed / change)了,we / us我们to have no other option but…只好to go去吃快餐。
have no choice or option…不得不 apila una doble negación en un "tener que" más fuerte y renuente: elevator电梯又坏了,
we / us我们have no choice or option…
No cuentes mal los negativos: have no choice or option…不得不to go去 significa "tener que ir", no "no poder ir". to have to必须 es el "deber" más tranquilo y neutral.
to go", not "can't go". to have to必须 is the calmer, neutral "must".
best最好 ofrece un consejo suave — "sería mejor": outside (also pr. for this…外面cold冷,best最好many多to wear穿point点。
Negativo: best最好don't别.
Para una obligación, usa (degree marker)得 / to have to必须 en su lugar.
or / still还是 + verb + (suggestion)吧 decide por la elección preferida tras sopesar opciones — "más vale, al fin y al cabo": or / still还是tomorrow明天to go去(suggestion)吧。 (Háishì míngtiān qù ba.) — Mejor vamos mañana
al fin y al cabo. El (suggestion)吧 lo suaviza en una sugerencia.
after all. The (suggestion)吧 softens it into a suggestion.
Secuencia y alcance: early先…again / then再…, one / a一 + classifier (in Chinese…量词 + one / a一 + classifier (in Chinese…量词, always从来all / both都, also也all / both都, just (in time)正好
early先 … ,again / then再 … ordena acciones en secuencia — "primero … luego …". En este marco again / then再 significa
"(and) then", not "again": First wash your hands, then eat. (Xiān xǐshǒu, zài chīfàn.) — Wash your
no "otra vez": early先to wash one's hands洗手,again / then再to have a meal吃饭。 (Xiān xǐshǒu, zài chīfàn.) — Lávate las
manos primero, luego come. Cadenas más largas se amplían con then / after然后 / to catch and hold on接着.
paso a paso, día tras día. No se amontonen, hablen uno por uno. (Bié chǎo, yíge yíge shuō.) — No
always从来 + all / both都(to be / is是) significa "siempre, desde siempre", y la afirmativa necesita su all / both都: always从来all / both都degree / adjective linker很
esfuerzo ✓, no always从来degree / adjective linker很 esfuerzo ✗. El uso cotidiano es negativo: never从来不 / always从来not / haven't没 = "nunca, no
una vez". I / me我never从来不to drink (alcohol)喝酒。 (Wǒ cónglái bù hējiǔ.) — Nunca bebo alcohol.
also也all / both都 abarca todo un grupo también — "todos … también" — en un orden fijo, nunca all / both都also也:
see 大夫大people人们to like喜欢this这个dining hall餐厅,child孩子(plural)们also也all / both都to like喜欢。
Ambos adverbios
van juntos antes del verbo.
just (in time)正好 es un blanco perfecto — "justo lo necesario, por casualidad" — actuando tanto como adverbio y
adjetivo: you你to come来(completed / change)了!I / me我just (in time)正好want / will / need要to try to find找you你。 (Nǐ lái le! Wǒ zhènghǎo yào zhǎo nǐ.) — ¡Ya estás aquí!
Iba a buscar justo a ti. 这件clothes衣服(modifier / structural particle)的large and small大小just (in time)正好。 (Zhè jiàn yīfu de
dàxiǎo zhènghǎo.) — Este conjunto tiene exactamente el tamaño adecuado.

(Respuestas: 1. No llegó tarde — almost差点 significa que casi ocurre y no ocurrió. 2. fear恐怕. 3. "He tenido")
"suficiente" — después del verbo, la lectura de frustración. 4. "Entonces" — el marco early先…again / then再…
corrige esa lectura. 5. original本来 — el adverbio de giro; original原来 es la realización. 6. also也all / both都, nunca
all / both都also也.)
