Periodisation is part of the answer. A prompt bounded by dates expects evidence from inside those dates; drifting outside them weakens the argument even when the content is correct.

Name the thinker, the work or the policy. European history questions turn on specific intellectual and political developments, and an unnamed "new idea" cannot be credited.

Treat each document as an argument by someone. Its author's position, audience and purpose are evidence in their own right, separate from the claim the document makes.
