Opposing an institution
- Anti-IMF and anti-World Bank activism targets the institutions that carry globalisation's economic terms.
- The objection is usually to conditions attached to lending, not to trade as such — which is the same distinction 9.5 drew.
- So this is a response aimed at how integration is governed.

Building a local alternative
- The advent of locally developed social media is a completely different kind of response: not protest, but substitution.
- A locally built platform keeps the users, the data and the advertising revenue inside the economy that made it.
- So this response accepts the technology and rejects the dependence — which is 5.6's state-sponsored industrialisation logic in a new medium.

Building a local alternative is a response, not an absence of one. The CED lists locally developed social media beside anti-institution activism — substitution accepts the technology and rejects the dependence, which is a different strategy from protest and should be named as one.

Four kinds you can name
- Protest against institutions. Substitution by local alternatives. Regulation by states of what crosses their borders.
- And selective adoption — taking the technology or the form while adapting its content.
- The CED supplies examples of the first two; naming all four shows you understand a variety of forms.

- So write the category first and the example second, every time.
- That habit turns two CED examples into an answer that reads as a framework.

Two responses to the same pressure. One organises demonstrations against the terms attached to a loan. The other builds a platform that does what the foreign one did, locally owned. Neither rejects connection; they disagree about who should set its terms — and that is the axis the whole subtopic runs on.
