Vocabulary
English Meaning
activation energy/ˌæktɪˈveɪʃn ˈenədʒi/The minimum energy that reacting particles need for a successful reaction.
Michaelis–Menten kineticsThe model in which an enzyme's rate rises with substrate concentration and levels off at a maximum, Vmax.
Michaelis constantThe substrate concentration at which an enzyme works at half its maximum rate; a low value means high affinity.
saturated/ˈsætʃəreɪtɪd/Describing a solution unable to dissolve more solute under stated conditions, or an organic molecule with no carbon-carbon double or triple bonds.
Lineweaver–Burk plotA plot of one over the rate against one over the substrate concentration, which gives a straight line for Michaelis–Menten kinetics.
competitive inhibitionAn inhibitor competing for the active site: Km rises while Vmax is unchanged.
