A friend is about to leave and asks what usually gets forgotten. You skip the checklist and think aloud: clothes, the charger, an umbrella, that kind of thing. Put a after each item and the list sounds open, spoken and a little unfinished. Two or three items often give a useful sample. The particle itself does not prove that extra items exist; context may make the list complete.
The shape is item plus a, item plus a, optionally closing with shenme de. Place a immediately after each item, with a comma after the particle. Two items are the minimum; three is very natural. Items are usually nouns or short noun phrases. Huzhao a, chongdianqi a, changyong de yao a, he meici chuchai doushi linzou cai zhuang jin bao li, passport, charger, medicine, every business trip he packs at the last minute. For the casual close, shenme de keeps the tone and shows the list is still open. Formal writing uses deng or dengdeng instead, leaving out the a.
