Somebody is always telling it
- Narrators or speakers relate accounts to readers and establish a relationship between the text and the reader.
- That relationship is built before any event is described.
- So identifying the narrator is not preliminary work — it changes what every later detail means.
The narrator is your tour guide; notice which rooms the tour never enters.
总有某个人在讲述
- 叙述者或说话者向读者讲述,并在文本与读者之间建立起一种关系。
- 这种关系在任何事件被描述之前就已建立。
- 因此指认叙述者不是准备工作——它改变了后面每一处细节的含义。
叙述者像导游;留意这趟参观从来不进哪些房间。
Narrators and speakers relate accounts and establish a ____ between the text and the reader. · 叙述者和说话人传达故事并在文本与读者之间建立____。
That relationship is built before any event is described. · 这种关系在任何事件被描述之前就已建立。
Perspective and point of view are different terms
- Perspective refers to how narrators, characters or speakers see their circumstances.
- Point of view 叙述视点 refers to the position from which a narrator or speaker relates the events.
- One is a way of seeing; the other is a place to see from. Exam questions use them precisely.
视角与叙述视点是两个不同的术语
- 视角指的是叙述者、人物或说话者如何看待自身处境。
- 叙述视点(point of view)指的是叙述者或说话者讲述事件时所处的位置。
- 一个是看的方式;另一个是看的所在。考题会精确地使用这两个词。
Perspective, point of view, or a mistake? · 视角、视点,还是错误?
Sort each phrase by the term it actually uses. · 根据短语实际使用的术语对其进行排序。
Point of view refers to... · 视点对指……
The first option defines perspective — the exam uses both terms precisely. · 第一个选项定义了视角——考试精确使用这两个术语。
A speaker or narrator is not necessarily the author
- The CED states this outright, and it is the commonest error in student writing.
- "The author says she is frightened" attributes a character's state to a person outside the text.
- Write the speaker, the narrator, or the character's name — never the author's.
说话者或叙述者未必就是作者
- CED 直接写明了这一点,而这也是学生写作中最常见的错误。
- "作者说她感到害怕"把一个人物的状态归给了文本之外的某个人。
- 要写说话者、叙述者,或人物的名字——绝不要写作者的名字。
The narrator of a story is the author of that story. · 故事的叙述者就是该故事的作者。
The CED states outright that a speaker or narrator is not necessarily the author. · CED明确指出,说话人或叙述者不一定是作者。
The speaker is not the author. Writing "the author feels" hands a character's state to a real person outside the text and costs marks on every AP rubric. Name the speaker, the narrator, or the character — and keep the author for statements about the writing itself.
说话者不是作者。写"作者感到"是把一个人物的状态交给了文本之外的一个真实的人,在每一份 AP 评分标准中都会失分。要点出说话者、叙述者或人物——把作者留给关于写作本身的表述。
Match each term to its definition. · 将每个术语与其定义匹配。
Three terms the exam keeps separate — so keep them separate in your writing. · 考试保持区分的三个术语——因此在写作中也保持区分。
Finding the narrator in a poem
- Poems rarely name their speaker, so read for the pronouns and what they claim to know.
- I who knows only their own mind is a different speaker from I who reports another's thoughts.
- An unnamed speaker still has a background, and the poem is where you read it.
在诗中找到说话者
- 诗很少点出说话者,因此要从代词以及它们声称知道什么来读。
- 只知道自己心思的那个我,与转述他人想法的那个我,是不同的说话者。
- 无名的说话者同样有其背景,而那首诗正是你读出它的地方。
Select all · 所有 the steps of the identification pass. · 选择识别阶段的所有步骤。
The two knowledge facts do more analytical work than any label. · 这两条知识事实比任何标签都能做更多的分析工作。
An identification pass
- Name the narrator or speaker. State their grammatical person.
- State one thing they know and one thing they cannot know.
- Those two facts do more analytical work than any label.
指认检查
- 说出叙述者或说话者是谁。指出其语法人称。
- 指出他们知道的一件事,和他们不可能知道的一件事。
- 这两个事实所做的分析工作,超过任何标签。
A poem's I says the sea forgets nothing. The speaker believes that; whether the poet does is unknowable and irrelevant. Analysis of the speaker's perspective is checkable; analysis of the poet's beliefs is not.
一首诗中的我说大海什么也不会忘记。是这个说话者这样相信;诗人是否如此相信既无从得知,也与此无关。对说话者视角的分析可以核查;对诗人信念的分析则不能。
Narrators and speakers relate accounts and establish a relationship with the reader. Perspective = how they see their circumstances; point of view = the position they relate events from. A speaker or narrator is not necessarily the author — name the speaker, never the author.
叙述者与说话者讲述事件,并与读者建立关系。视角=他们如何看待自身处境;叙述视点=他们讲述事件所处的位置。说话者或叙述者未必就是作者——要点出说话者,绝不要写作者。
