Here is what makes listening different from every other paper. 听力和其他任何一张卷子都不同,原因在这里。
In reading, the text sits still and waits for you. 阅读时,文章静静地待着等你;听力时,录音不会等你。
In listening, <slow>the recording does not wait.</slow> A student hears: the class begins at four fifteen — and spends the next ten seconds thinking about how to spell fifteen. 有位同学听到"课程四点十五分开始",然后花了十秒钟想 fifteen 该怎么拼。
By the time they look up, two more questions have gone past. 等他抬起头,又过去了两道题。
You heard the answer. You still lost the marks. 答案你听到了,分数还是丢了。
So almost all the work happens before the recording starts, and that is what we are going to build today. 所以几乎全部功夫都要下在录音开始之前——今天我们就来练这个。
Listening. 听力。
You hear every recording twice, the answers arrive in the order of the questions, and the speakers will try to mislead you in two or three predictable ways. 每段录音你都会听两遍,答案按题目的顺序出现, 而说话人会用两三种可以预料的方式误导你。
Once you know those ways, this becomes one of the most controllable papers you sit. 一旦你摸清这些套路,这就会成为你最能掌控的一张卷子。
Every recording gives you time before it begins. Most students stare at the wall. 每段录音开始前都会留时间给你,大多数同学在发呆。
Do these three things instead. 请改做这三件事。
One: read the question — all of it, not the first half. 第一,把题目读完——整道题,不是只读前半句。
Two: underline the key word, the one that tells you what is being asked. Where. How much. 第二,划出关键词,也就是告诉你"在问什么"的那个词:在哪里、多少钱、哪一天。
Which day. Three, and this is the powerful one: predict the kind of answer. 第三,也是最有威力的一条:预测答案的类型。
A time? A price? 是时间?
A name? 价格?
A place? 名字?
Now your ear is waiting for something specific, and a specific ear catches far more than a general one. 还是地点? 现在你的耳朵在等一个具体的东西,而一只有准备的耳朵,比一只泛泛听的耳朵抓得多得多。
Now catch the detail — specific facts: places, names, dates, times and directions. 下面这个关于考试的事实,每年都在救人。
And one fact about the exam that saves students every year. The answers come in the same order as the questions. 答案出现的顺序和题目顺序一致:第一题的答案一定出现在第二题之前。
Question one is answered before question two, always. So if you miss one, you know exactly where you are: you are now listening for the next question, not the one you lost. 所以,即使漏掉一题,你也很清楚自己在哪儿: 你现在要听的是下一题,而不是丢掉的那一题。
Let it go, put a dot beside it, and move your eyes down. 放掉它,在旁边点个点,眼睛往下移。
And never hunt backwards while the recording is still playing. 录音还在放的时候,绝不要往回找。
Hunting backwards for one mark is how students lose three. 为了一分往回找,往往会丢掉三分。
Use both playings: you hear everything twice, and the two have different jobs. 所有内容你都会听两遍,而这两遍的任务不同。
On the first playing, answer. 第一遍:作答。
Write down everything you catch, even roughly. 凡是听到的都先写下来,哪怕潦草。
Do not aim for perfect spelling — aim for the information. 不要追求拼写完美,要追求把信息抓住。
On the second, check and fill the gaps. 第二遍:核对和补空。
This is when you tidy the spelling, complete the ones you missed, and confirm the ones you guessed. 这时候再去整理拼写、补上漏掉的、确认猜的那些。
And one warning: do not change an answer on the second playing unless you have a real reason. 还有一句提醒:第二遍时,没有真正的理由就不要改答案。
Students talk themselves out of correct answers far more often than into them. 同学们把对的答案改错的次数,远多于把错的改对。
Now the trap that catches more students than any other: the speaker corrects themselves. 下面这个陷阱坑的人最多:说话人自我更正。
The match is on Saturday — a student writes Saturday and looks away. "比赛在星期六"——同学写下星期六,就把目光移开了。
Then the speaker says: sorry, I mean Sunday. 然后说话人说:"对不起,我是说星期天。
The correction is the answer, and the student never heard it. " 更正后的才是答案,而这位同学根本没听见。
So learn the rule: the last version wins. 所以记住这条规则:以最后一个版本为准。
Whenever you hear a number, a day, a price or a spelling, keep listening for one more sentence before you commit. 每当你听到数字、星期、价格或拼写,先别急着定稿,再多听一句。
Watch the distractors. 选择题的套路也一样。
In a multiple-choice question, the wrong options are called distractors, and they are not random. They are built from words the speaker actually says. 在选择题里,错误的选项叫作干扰项,而它们不是随便编的, 它们就是用说话人真的说出口的词做成的。
A good recording will mention every option: I thought about the museum, and my sister wanted the beach, but in the end we went to the market. All three appear. Only one is the answer. 一段设计得好的录音会把每个选项都提到: "我本来想去博物馆,我妹妹想去海边,但最后我们去了market。
So listen to the whole idea, right to the end of the sentence, before you choose. " 三个选项都出现了,答案只有一个。 所以要听完整个意思,一直听到句子结束再选。
The word you hear first is very often the trap. 你最先听到的那个词,往往就是陷阱。
Words that signal the answer: trained ears listen for the small ones. 训练有素的耳朵会去听那些指向答案的小词。
Learn four sets. 记住四组。
A correction is coming: actually… sorry, I mean… on second thought… What comes after those holds the answer, not what came before. 要更正了:actually…… sorry, I mean…… on second thought…… 答案在这些词之后,不在之前。
Here is the key point: the main thing is… what matters is… above all… Here comes a feeling: to be honest… the trouble is… I'm delighted that… And the order of steps: first… next… finally… Catching one of these can win a mark on its own. In a longer talk, follow the connections too: ideas connect, and words like but, because and so show you how one point leads to the next. 要说重点了:the main thing is…… what matters is…… above all…… 要表达感受了:to be honest…… the trouble is…… I'm delighted that…… 要讲步骤顺序了:first…… next…… finally…… 抓住其中一个,本身就可能换来一分。
Now hearing opinions and attitudes. Some questions do not ask what the speaker said; they ask for the speaker's opinion and feelings — and the clue is always word choice. 有些题目问的不是说话人说了什么,而是他的感受——线索永远是用词。
Here is the same fact three times. The course lasts six weeks. 同一个事实说三遍:这门课程为期六周。
The course only lasts six weeks. 这门课程只有六周。
The course drags on for six weeks. 这门课程要拖上六周。
Same six weeks — but the words they chose tell you the speaker is neutral, then disappointed, then fed up. 同样是六周,但他们选的词告诉你:第一个是中性,第二个是失望,第三个是厌烦。
So listen for the strong word in the sentence, not the fact. 所以要去听句子里那个"重"的词,而不是那个事实。
The fact is usually in every version; the feeling is in one word. 事实在每个版本里都有,感受只在一个词里。
Now listening between the lines, where the implied meaning matters: sometimes the answer is never said at all. 有时候答案根本没被说出来。
What the speaker said: well, the food was certainly… interesting. 说话人说的是:"嗯,那food确实……挺有意思的。
What the speaker meant: they did not like it. " 说话人的意思是:他不喜欢。
Nobody said the word bad, and every listener understands. 没有人说出"难吃"这个词,可每个听的人都懂。
So when a question asks what the speaker suggests or implies, do not hunt for the words. Ask why they said it that way — the hesitation, the odd adjective, the sentence that stops early. 所以当题目问说话人暗示了什么时,不要去找原词, 要问他为什么这样说——那个停顿、那个奇怪的形容词、那句没说完的话。
That is where the answer lives. 答案就藏在那里。
You will also hear words you do not know, and here is the mistake to avoid. 你也一定会听到不认识的词,而这里有一个必须避开的错误。
One unknown word makes a student stop and think — and while they think, the recording keeps going. 一个不认识的词让人停下来琢磨——而在琢磨的时候,录音还在往前跑, 为了一个词,又丢掉两道题。
Two more questions are lost to one word. 正确的做法是利用它周围的话。
Instead, use the words around it. If you hear "we took the funicular up the hill, and the view from the top was worth it", you do not need to know funicular. It goes up a hill, so it carries people. 如果你听到"我们乘funicular上山,山顶的景色很值", 你并不需要知道 funicular 是什么:它能上山,所以是载人的。
Keep listening. 继续听下去。
The meaning nearly always arrives a sentence later. 意思几乎总会在下一句里出现。
Then the answer itself, and three quick rules. 接下来是答案本身,三条快速规则。
Keep it to one or two words, or a short phrase. 第一,只写一两个词,或一个短语。
A full sentence wastes the seconds you need for the next question. 写整句会浪费你留给下一题的那几秒钟。
Spelling matters for names, days and places — which is exactly why speakers spell them out for you. 第二,人名、星期和地名的拼写是算分的—— 这也正是说话人会把它们逐个字母念给你听的原因。
When you hear letters, write letters, immediately. 听到字母,就立刻把字母写下来。
And never leave a blank. 第三,绝不留空。
There is no penalty for a wrong guess, and a sensible guess from the topic wins marks surprisingly often. 猜错不扣分,而根据话题做出的合理猜测,得分的次数出乎意料地多。
Three habits to carry in. 带三个习惯进考场。
First, use every second before the recording: underline the key word and predict the answer type. 第一,用足录音开始前的每一秒:划出关键词,预测答案类型。
Second, when you hear a number, a day or a spelling, wait one more sentence — the last version is the answer. 第二,听到数字、星期或拼写时,再多等一句——最后一个版本才是答案。
Third, write something for every single question before the paper is collected. 第三,交卷之前,每一道题都要写上东西。
Do those three, and listening stops being luck and starts being a skill. 做到这三点,听力就不再靠运气,而是一项技能。
