Shopping comparisons in three tools. A bi B plus adjective compares two things, with the adjective following the comparison and no hen allowed inside. Ben counts books and jian counts clothing, the new measure words. And yijing dot dot dot le says an action is already done. One reading habit ties them together: a comparison needs both reference objects, and a price difference needs its baseline.
The bi comparison is a frame, not a word. A plus bi plus B plus the adjective: zhe ben shu bi na ben shu gui, this book is more expensive than that one. The adjective follows the comparison, arriving last. The checked example shows the arithmetic: the blue one costs twenty, the red one thirty, and the difference is ten, a specific baseline with a specific difference. Compare two prices you know aloud, and keep both reference objects in the sentence, because a comparison with one object has nothing to lean on.
Two new measure words join ge. Ben counts books, yi ben shu, one book. Jian counts clothing, yi jian chenshan, one shirt. The reading habit: quantity and property answer different questions, how many versus what kind, and a form asks you to record names, dates, quantities and prices in the correct fields, each fact in its own box.
Yijing plus verb plus le indicates an action already completed in context: wo yijing mai le, I've already bought it. Its opposite is the plan: wo dasuan mingtian mai, I plan to buy it tomorrow. Read what happened versus what is planned, because the two live in different sentences and answer different questions, and a shopping record that mixes them is wrong twice.
The watch-out is the one word to keep out: the standard bi comparison takes no hen, however very the English sounds. Zhe ben shu bi na ben shu gui is right, zhe ben shu bi na ben shu hen gui is wrong, because English very does not transfer into the frame. The adjective follows bi bare, and the comparison carries its own force.
Pause and check both. First, jian counts clothing, yi jian chenshan, while ben counts books. Second, drop the hen: zhe ben shu bi na ben shu gui, because the standard bi comparison takes no hen. The remaining review items: the frame is A plus bi plus B plus adjective, and yijing mai le means already bought, in context. You can now compare prices and report what you already bought.
