A useful situation
- Your goal: Follow simple directions and ask for clarification.
- Before you start, recall familiar place names. from从 means from, to / arrive到 to, early先 first and then / again after再 then; directions describe an ordered route rather than a journey duration.
先向左转，再向右转。向左转 means turn left and 向右转 turn right. Which action comes first?
Difficulty 1/5 · 100 coins + a small bonus on first completion today
先 marks the first action, left; 再 introduces the later right turn. Spotting a familiar direction without its sequence marker can reverse the route.
Words you will use
- from从 cóng — from. from从school学校to set off出发。
- to / arrive到 dào — to / arrive. to / arrive到hospital医院。
- left左 zuǒ — left. towards向left左to revolve转。
- right右 yòu — right. towards向right右to revolve转。
- then / again after再 zài — then / again after. 先走，then / again after再to revolve转。
Match each word with its meaning in this unit.

Build the meaning
- from从……to / arrive到…… gives a starting point and destination. from从school学校to / arrive到hospital医院 describes a route, not the hospital’s current location.
- early先……then / again after再…… orders actions. towards向left左to revolve转 and towards向right右to revolve转 mean turn left and turn right. Repeat the direction to check understanding.
Work through a decision: For from从school学校to / arrive到hospital医院，early先towards向right右to walk走，then / again after再towards向left左to revolve转 — from school to the hospital, first go right, then turn left — identify the start (school学校), destination (hospital医院) and ordered actions. Repeating early先towards向right右to walk走，then / again after再towards向left左to revolve转 checks the sequence. The description gives no distance, crossing layout or travel time.
Compare a plausible mistake: from从school学校to / arrive到hospital医院 names a route from school to hospital; hospital医院at / in在school学校side旁边 locates the hospital beside the school. Directions from one place to another do not mean the two places are next to each other. If you cannot hear a direction clearly, to ask请to say again再说one time (all the way…一遍 asks for repetition rather than guessing.
early先 and then / again after再 indicate order. Do not choose a route by spotting only one familiar direction word.
Complete “first go, then turn”: 先走，____转。

再 marks the following action.
A route says 从图书馆到商店，先向左走，再向右转。图书馆 means library, 商店 shop, 向左走 go left and 向右转 turn right. First identify the start, then the first action. Which pair is correct?

从图书馆 gives the start and 先向左走 the first action. 到商店 is the destination, not the start. The right turn follows 再, so it is later.

Read a different account
from从school学校to / arrive到hospital医院，early先towards向right右to walk走，then / again after再towards向left左to revolve转。hospital医院at / in在library图书馆side旁边。林安听不清，to ask问：“to ask请to say again再说one time (all the way…一遍。”
- The reading and listening have different details. Use the material for the question you are answering.
- Read once for the situation, then again for the relevant detail. Reveal help when needed.

医院在图书馆旁边 gives the stated location.
Read: 从学校到图书馆，先向右走，再向左转。图书馆在商店旁边。图书馆 means library and 商店 shop. Which statement preserves order and reference place?

先向右走 comes before 再向左转. The last sentence locates the library beside the shop, not the school. One incorrect choice reverses the actions; the other gives the destination’s location to the starting place.
Speak, write, and review
- Give two-step directions. Your partner asks you to repeat the final turn.
- Record yourself or practise with a partner. Try it without the model first, then compare the meaning and word order.
A: early先towards向right右to walk走，then / again after再towards向left左to revolve转。 B: to ask请to say again再说one time (all the way…一遍。 A: then / again after再towards向left左to revolve转。
- Write a two-step route with a starting point and destination.
- Tomorrow, recall a new two-action route without the model. Later, reverse the turn order and explain how the instruction changes. Practise asking for repetition before acting on an unclear direction.
- Words: from从 from · to / arrive到 to / arrive · left左 left · right右 right · then / again after再 then / again after
- from从……to / arrive到…… gives a starting point and destination.

Write a two-step route with a starting point and destination.
Compare the meaning and structure with the checklist. Your own response may differ from the model.
Use Mandarin for the new sentences or dialogue. You may explain your reasoning in English. Create a short fictional route with a start, destination and two ordered actions. Give it to a partner, who repeats the sequence or asks for clarification. Add one location statement about the destination and name one practical route detail you have not supplied.
If repetition reverses the route, match each direction with 先 or 再 and repeat again. If a detail is unclear, ask for it explicitly. Do not treat an invented real-world layout as evidence from your short description.
