Polite Chinese in four moves. Address people by role, Teacher Wang, not first names. Describe them with bare adjective predicates, he is tall. Ask permission with keyi ma and request with qing. And meet the weishenme and yinwei pair that makes every why answerable. One habit carries over from level one: ma still does its yes-or-no job, and shi still stays out of adjective sentences.
Chinese addresses people by role. For a teacher, surname plus laoshi is usual: Wang laoshi, Teacher Wang. Xiansheng, Mr, and nvshi, Ms, fit other respectful contexts. The common error is copying English first-name habit into Chinese; respectful titles depend on role and context, so the teacher you address by surname plus title, not by given name.
Describing a person uses the same adjective sentence from level one. Ta hen gao, he is tall, with no shi before the adjective, because the adjective is still the verb and shi is still wrong there. Level two adds vocabulary, not exceptions, which is good news: every rule you learned keeps working. Describe a friend with one adjective and say it aloud.
Three request frames. Keyi dot dot dot ma asks permission: Wang laoshi, wo keyi jinlai ma, Teacher Wang, may I come in, where keyi asks the permission and jinlai describes movement toward the speaker's reference point. Qing makes a polite request. Bie gives a negative instruction: bie jinlai, don't come in. And the apology carries a changed arrival: duibuqi, wo lai wan le, sorry I came late, with le marking the change. Ask permission to enter with the full polite frame and you have used all of it at once.
Weishenme asks why and yinwei gives the reason, a pair that makes every question answerable. The rule the notes add: questions and answers must preserve the intended social action. A why-question about being late earns a reason about the bus or the alarm, not a change of subject. Give the reason that fits the action asked about.
Pause and check both. First, Wang laoshi, surname plus role, the usual for a teacher. Second, keyi dot dot dot ma asks permission, with qing for requests and bie for negative instructions. The remaining review items: ta hen gao needs no shi, and yinwei answers a weishenme question. You can now enter a room politely and explain yourself.
